FAQs:

SALSA FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS! Learn to Salsa on any one of our highly acclaimed beginners classes held throughout the city and discover a vibrant and exciting social life that you would never have imagined possible outside of Cuba!

Catch up with your friends for a drink as you socialise the latino way..by dancing and indulging in our delicious Mojito cocktails!

The biggest bonus of all is that you'll discover a leisurely way to tone up and shed a few pounds without disrupting your social life!

Now that's what I call a great night out at the pub!

Once you have savoured the delights of salsa dancing in class you won't look back and we have plenty of fantastic club nights and events that you can practice your new moves at.

Not to mention the hundreds of new people that you'll meet! Glasgow's salsa scene is kicking!

If you think salsa is difficult to learn..think again.

We've introduced Salsa to thousands of new beginners and they all came to us thinking they had two left feet, you gotta start somewhere but the sky's the limit!  8 weeks may sound like a short time but let us impress you with how quickly you progress under our expert guidance.

What will the course cover?

There are many dancing styles in salsa although we specialize in Cuban salsa.

During your salsa course we will also introduce you to:

BACHATA which comes from the Dominican Republic, and is rapidly becoming a dance floor filler and it will serve to accelerate your salsa dancing and styling too.

MERENGUE hails from the Caribbean, and is widely played in salsa clubs around the world. It is very easy to learn and will make you look and feel like an expert dancer instantly!

Why Salsa?

Well, for a start did you know that 60mins of salsa dancing can burn up to 400 calories?

Salsa dancing will also tone and shape your figure.

Endorphins..yes, endorphins, that 'feel good factor' that comes from having a great time!

In Latin America, people look forward to salsa dancing as a time to party and a way to let your hair down and de-stress!

FAQ:

How long does class last/ course?

60 mins once a week for 8 weeks.

What if I miss a class?

No problem-You can always make up that credit in another beginners class on a different day or you can

do 2 classes in one week to catch up.

What if I miss the first class?

Again, this is not a problem as we always recap what we did at the first class in week 2 of the course.

Can I pay weekly?

We require full payment in the first week otherwise each week our teaching slot will be taken up with collection of monies and less time for teaching.

I work shifts and may not manage each week.

We usually have 2 beginners courses running about a week or 2 apart, so if you miss a class you would be welcome to attend any other beginners course on a different day so as not to miss a week.

Partner required?
No. Other people come on their own too. Salsa is great for socialising!

What kind of clothing?

Normal clothes, comfy shoes.

Will I be able to dance after 8 weeks?

Yes! In fact, we organise a class night out to a real salsa club towards the end of the course!

Only once a week?
Yes but if you opt to attend 2 courses a week- we’ll offer you a 50% discount on each additional class.

Minimum/maximum age:

You are as old as you feel! Most of our clients fall into the 20-30 bracket & 34-50 bracket

Do any men attend?

More and more guys are finally realising that the way to a woman’s heart is to dance her off her feet and having fun! Where there is a shortage of men, we can always call on the Academia men to help out!

Current Academia de Salsa student incentives & promos:

We have had a few queries arise as a result of the extra value incentives that we offer our clients.
You may not have been aware that these additional services are available to you.

I have outlined them below as well as the terms and conditions of each one to avoid misunderstandings.

Additional class promo:

£3 special deal if you attend 2 or more classes a week:(NB.this applies to our cuban style salsa & bachata classes only)

1. You pay £6  for one class and £3 per class for any others you do on a given week. If you have paid for an 8 week block any additional classes are charged at £3 each weekly.

  1. 2.You may not attend a class higher than your level.
If you have been doing this then ask your teacher about making that “advanced” class your 'main class'. You may then continue attendance as usual.

Catching up on missed classes:

If you have paid for a block and miss one or two classes we don't mind if you catch up at another class as long as:

1. The class is of the same level  or lower(if it isn't it's considered an extra class and you pay £3)

2. The catch up class falls within your pre-paid 8 week block. ie. you cannot carry forward 'catch up classes' to the next block.

If you pre-pay a block of 8 classes for you are saving £13, the equivalent of 2 classes. Therefore if you miss a class or two you are not losing anything really in monetary terms. The catch up idea was intended to ensure that you did not fall behind and are only available when there is a similar class running on another day.

Leaders go free:

We do have a policy in place whereby leaders may attend any beginners or improvers classes (Levels 1, 2 & 3) for free to help out as long as they have been invited to do so.
We have extended this extra practice opportunity to Academia de Salsa students and staff only.
Please note that:

1. If you do not pay for any classes at present then, technically, you are not considered an Academia de Salsa student and therefore are not eligible to participate in this free class opportunity.
To rectify this simply see your teacher about paying for a class from now on.

We are really keen to offer you as much extra practice time as possible and we have introduced these generous discounts and class credits with good intent.
We also like to reward our clients for their loyalty.

There has been some confusion perhaps and, in some cases, suspected abuse of these incentives by a few (fortunately only a very few) which if this continues may lead to these incentives being withdrawn which would be a great pity for all of us.

So please do not be offended if we seek clarification regarding payment and attendance as we are only trying to make sure that our data and facts are right so that we can continue to develop and offer you excellent service. I can assure you that it's not personal, just a case of boring admin! We currently manage 20 classes a week so admin is very important to us as you can imagine! If you think that your payment details are incorrect please let us know so that we can amend our records. (write to: shannon@academiadesalsa.com or tel. 07932010612).
