Billy is a Senior Instructor and is one of the Academia old school.
He has a very contemporary hip-hop style and brings new meaning to the term 'Papi Chulo'! The undisputed master of creativity, Billy will have you dancing in five minutes flat!

Momo hails from France. Momo has a very authentic style which he is sharing with the team and he is also a DJ member of The Latin Kollective with his very distinct cuban timba style!

Top product designer by day and hot DJ by night! Carlos' speciality is salsa dura from Colombia and Puerto Rico- Pa'lante!

Derek has an encyclopedic memory for remembering salsa moves!..he keeps the rest of us on track! The newest addition to the Latin Kollective of DJs Derek also dabbles in DJing at our events. Derek’s a real fan of Cuban Timba and Heavy metal music! Annual trips to Cuba keep his music collection up to date!

This husband & wife duo met through our salsa classes several years ago..ahhhh.
Colin likes to mix it up! Don’t expect him to remember a move in its original form ‘cos he can’t help but adapt it..he is the innovator of the team! He’s also a valued team member ‘cos he’s a superb hairdresser and keeps us looking our best!
Meet the vivacious Shannon Shiell, the Academia de Salsa's founder and director!
Shannon formed the Academia De Salsa some 20 years ago, originally as a hobby while she completed her Latin American studies at Glasgow University.
She learned her first salsa moves in Colombia and regularly visits Cuba to pick up all the latest moves. Shannon teaches around the country and internationally.
Shannon is a full time promoter of Salsa and keeps the Scottish salsa scene kicking! Barca, Sunday Social & Cubafest are just a few of her strokes of genius!
Shannon also formed and heads the Academia's Latin Kollective of DJs.
JAMIE
SALSA TEACHER
Jamie is a scientist by day and salsa guru by night! In his first year teaching with us he has secured his popularity with our beginners for his wit and patience.
GRANT
SALSA TEACHER/DJ
Grant DJs at our BARCA nights every Thursday and leads a free salsa taster class there at 9pm.
He’s a smooth dancer, always very welcoming and has a wicked sense of humour, usually conveyed through his customised T-shirts!!
TIO FRANK..Our Salsa Patriarch!
FRANK is an inspiration to us all..old and young alike.
His vitality in life and on the dance floor has won him many admirers, not to mention dance competitions too!
Youthful, with 78 years of experience behind him, we all ADORE our Tio Frank! He is our welcome committee and official party patriarch...he is usually the first and last man standing!
